On Saturday I decided that Lilly needed some big girl toys. She is still playing with all of her baby toys and needed something a little more stimulating for her little brain. Growing up I remember having TONS of toys. But I was also the 3rd child and played with not only my toys but my sister and brothers. I kinda feel bad for Lills. She has hardly anything to play with because we dont have the money or the room for them. Being the first child, every new stage she hits, she needs new toys. She cant just play with her siblings old toys, because she doesnt have siblings.
So I jumped on Toys R Us online and started looking for something fun for Lills. But I soon realized that I have no idea what she is interested in. She is too old for baby toys but too young for Barbies and stuff. I started thinking about some of the fun toys I had when I was younger and how much she would love them. But of course they dont make anything like them anymore. So we ended up going to the store and walking around for like 2 hours trying to find something she would like. We came home with a shopping cart and fake dishes and food. She absolutely loves them but I wish I could have found more things that she would love just as much. But I have no clue what!

So cute! Looks like she's going to have fun with the shopping cart.
Thrift stores (probably no DI's where you are, but maybe Salvation Army!) are great for toys! Just a little soap and water when you get home and you're set. Yard sales are also a good place for toys. I like to browse Toys R Us online or KSL.com to see what reasonable prices are for used and new, so I know a deal when I see one at DI/yard sales.
With our small space (like you guys!) we rotate our toys every few months. Sophie is always looking forward to that, seemingly brand new toys. I in a sense go "shopping" in our basement.
I've also heard of groups of moms setting up a toy exchange: Everyone bring toys that the kids have outgrown and trade, no exchange of money.
How fun! I'm in the same boat as you. Taylor does love every kind of ball, and he's starting to look at books a little more, but I need big boy toys. That is my project when we get back to AZ.
I love that the cart is stocked with oatmeal. How fun! Jovie really likes little puzzles...like Alphabet and number ones that you just put in the correct spot. If you haven't tried those, they're fun. Hope you're loving your new home!
Ah hahaha....oh man that oatmeal is hilarious!! Jenny, I always love reading your stuff because you are so funny. Hmmm.... well since we have no kids I have no kids I can't help you out!! Good choice on the shopping cart though... I STILL remember playing with my entire kitchen. Best ever.
You did good. Kyley loves that same stuff. Since Kyley does have an older sister to take toys from here are some of her favorites. The play kitchen, toy phones, she does like barbies (hide the shoes for now!). She LOVES Hailey's toy laptop which is probably too advanced for her, they do have ones more geared for Kyley's or Lilly's age. She also really likes baby dolls and little toy bottles to feed them with. Hopefully that gives you some more ideas.
It's hard to know what they want to play with and ya don't want to waste money on a bunch of toys they won't play with. From that age on Brylee was content with a baby that came with diapers and a bottle and she loved to take care of them. Otherwise it seems like they need something active at that age. Cute shopping cart though that's a good idea!
We found a REAL shopping cart in the garage at our new house. Lilly would have thought that was wonderful, I thought it was white trash.
We moved in today! Holy exhausting week. It's one in the morning and Andrew just went to Walmart.
Love you!
